Dear Reader,
Over the years CAPDM has developed many widely-used Moodle modules ? for reflective portfolios, topic object tracking and student profiling, for example.? Today we can announce ? and offer to all ? a fully worked methodology and Moodle implementation of an Adaptive Learning system.
We call it?ALFA ? Adaptive Learning For All, and it is fully explained in this briefing paper on our website.
Unlike all other developments on offer it is neither a platform model (as offered by Knewton, etc.) nor a publisher model (e.g. from Pearson).? It is based entirely on an open XML standard and offered as a working and/or reference implementation in Moodle.? It is completely extensible and capable of implementation on other platforms as it is a methodology, not a closed black box system.? ?It is also not a prescription: control is firmly in the hands of the academic and course developer.
A standards-based approach avoids any proprietary lock-in to online developments.
ALFA?is part of a wider portfolio of Moodle developments at CAPDM, all of which we are happy to make available to the Moodle community.? They are showcased in a Look.Book on our website?where you can also find many short briefing papers and longer white papers.

Yours sincerely,
